Yosemite Creek, Katoomba oil on canvas 76x112cmm
Judge: Anthony Bond from Art Gallery of NSW said
“there is nothing abstract about this- or is there? actually it is equally a look at nature but also equally about the process of laying on paint dab by dab (by the way that is what tache refers to, often used to describe Impressionist technique). In this case the description of a wooded creek bed leads the eye into the landscape while the woven skein of taches maintains a surface coherence that is the principle objective of modern painting since Monet et al.”
